KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee said now is the time for full autonomy for Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners to Malaya.
"With full autonomy, Sabah (and Sarawak) would not be made to bear the RM600 billion debt of the Federal government incurred as a result of over spending on projects in Malaya," he said.
Contacted for comments on Friday. Yong claimed it was common knowledge that whoever forms the Federal Government will have to depend on the resources of Sabah and Sarawak for Survival.
"Only a fully autonomous Sabah government which is not under the control of Malaya parties can protect Sabah's resources from the clutches of the Federal government", claimed Yong.
Sabahans and Sarawaktans should not fall for completely useless, ridiculous gimmicks like the Kuching Declaration of September 16. 2012 that "Sabah and Sarawak are equal partners", he said.
"lt goes without saying the Sarawak and Sabah are equal. It is equal partnership with Malaya that the Borneo territories want to reclaim as intended in the formation of Malaysia in 1963."
Yong who is a former Chief Minister said that nothing can save the Prime Minister or Umno if the allegations (on 1MDB and the RM2.6billion in a personal account) were found to be true.
Yong further claimed that even if the Prime Minister resigned too much damage has been done to Umno" due to the serious allegations.
"The unconvincing explanation (ill health) of the Attorney General under current circumstances compounds the credibility of the government. How long can such drama go on and on?" he asked.
